Another day, another tool. Sketching, measuring & Inventor. If you're wondering, I'm currently in the midst of creating another set of tools. Creating each piece requires more than just patience. Measuring and sketching also require precision, proper planning, and calculation.

This week, I've completed a couple of new tools, Tool 4 & 5. However, I also encountered an obstacle. I was not able to detect the tools on Vuforia Studio and this has hindered my progress. Allegedly, some of the reasons that caused this delay in progress are:

REASONS:

1. The difference in tablet resolution

2. Mistakes in 3D model design in Inventor

3. The angle of outline in Vuforia Studio

With this deductions, I have yet to figure out the solution to these problems. Some of the suggested idea to ensure the detection of tools works is:

SOLUTION:

1. Use a different tablet with higher resolution

2. If it's still undetectable, make changes in Vuforia Studio

3. Our last and final option is to redesign the tool in Inventor

Keeping the team in mind, I am going to try my best and try to mend this issue as soon as possible taking one step at the time. I hope to able to complete this amendment by the end of the week. I'll continue to keep an update on this blog to track my progress and I hope to make a couple of progress along the rest of next week!

All the best and see you soon!

Hello NeRdS!!!!!!

Let’s recap what we’ve done so far - Splash Screen - Purpose Page - Workpiece Detection - Explosion - Home Page - Tool Page - Start Project - Text-to-Speech function - Loading Bar

So next, after setting and starting up the machine. We need to work on our Tool Change & Set Up - Tool 1

Before we start doing that, we wanted to experiment with the workstation idea that Mr David, our supervisor suggested to us. Whereby we align all the tools needed by the user - so as to avoid the user misplacing tools.

We took about 1-2 day to do some research, and CAD-ing ALL the tools out. And we concluded that, we’ll detect a thingmark - and the workstation pops up! As for the workstation itself, we tried putting a “ table top” as the base, and outlining the different tools on the table top.

However, after testing out that idea, I felt that it would be very hard for the user to see as it is just the outlines of the tools- they all look similar to one another.

But, on the Wednesday 17th October 2018. Our supervisor nudged us if our group wanted to take part in the Engineering Show - whereby different projects will be showcased for the industrial companies. Initially we weren’t very interested, as I was afraid that we wouldn’t have much to show, as the beginning of our project/application is mostly 2D animations and not much AR involved.

After some consideration, our group decided to take part in it! SOOOOOOOO, we had to drop whatever we had on hand - the workstation. And prepare presentation slides, making sure our application is working smoothly, tools are able to detect, etc. We had to take videos in case the application doesn’t work during the presentation ON FRIDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2018! BASICALLY, we had only 1 day to SETTLE EVERYTHING! WE WILL ALL srsly VERY STRESSED OUT!!!!!

We had DETECTION PROBLEMS with the Tool 1-3, but we went down to the workshop to try detecting with the real tool, it comes out real fast! I SWEAR Vuforia Studio’s detection trains your patience level.

We also wanted to attend the EXPO event - Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific (ITAP) 16-18 Oct’18. But, we were unable to, because we had to rush for the engineering show presentation! :( very sads

BUT ITS OKAY! The presentation on Friday, was OKAY???? (meh) I could’ve done better obviously. My voice was literally shaking from the start till the end........ I guess we will have to wait for the results to see if we’re selected for Engineering Show 2019!!!!!!! *fingers crossed*

WE will keep u updated NEXT WEEK! see you soon!!!!

Updates for the week:

This week has been quite a rushed week as we were busy preparing for the selection process for the Engineering Show. Yea, we kinda last minute agreed to join the SP Engineering Show even though we mentioned a few weeks back that we weren't going to. The few days before the selection process, we spent quite a lot of time debugging any glitches in our program so as to ensure that on the actual day, we wouldn't face any hiccups while demonstrating our project to the panel of judges.

That’s all for this week’s updates. I’ll see you guys next week with some new content to share.
