Hi guys!

So what is Engineering Show? You might ask.

It is an exhibition of only selected final year engineering projects to showcase their innovation efforts to solve real-life problems. The Show will have visitors from the industries and secondary schools.

This year's projects involved the following themes:

1. Cleantech & Built Environment

2. SP FabLab

3. Healthcare & Wellness

4. Industrial Automation

5. Infocomm & Media

6. SP Tech To Market

7. 5G Possibilities

8. Transport & Mobility

And we are under the Infocomm & Media theme! :-)

We all have been working hard for this event, and before it starts, we had to prepare a number of things before the real show starts!

1. Download Mirroring360 on ALL laptops

2. Two HDMI-VGA cables

3. Extension plugs

4. Monitor to display our Eng Show and our Short Demo video

5. Workstation tools & Tool Number 1: FaceMill

6. Caution Labels - Precautions

7. Combine Eng Show & Demo Videos

Overall, SPES 2019 was a fun and enriching experience. We were able to hear constructive feedbacks from industries partners and gained a deeper insight into how the real world is like and their practices. Most of the partners, lecturers, and students were very impressed with our work!

One of the partners under ASTAR was delighted with our efforts and even gave us a name card, offering us to go down to his office to take a look at their projects using Augmented Reality.

We were extremely honored to have met Mr. K S Cheng of Temasek Mazak Singapore Pte Ltd!

Here is a picture with him:

He wasn't much of a talker, but he was happy with what we have implemented into our project!

But not all of them were satisfied and impressed with our work, the reason being - the teaching method in Singapore Polytechnic was OUTDATED, and the industries might not be able to adopt our project idea.

Nonetheless, we will continue to improve on DEVIANT using the feedback we've gotten from the lecturers, students, and most importantly, the industries partners.

Here are some pictures we took during the Engineering Show:

Other than the Engineering Show, we are also halfway done with the Cut Now 2D animations, progress status indicator, audio & text boxes. Hopefully, we will complete these miscellaneous tasks by next week!

Thanks for reading, and I will see you next week! :-)

SPES! It is one of the busiest week for most engineering students in SP. Singapore Polytechnic Engineering Show, SPES for short, is an event organised for engineering students to showcase their innovative projects during their final year. The event was held on 14-18 Jan 2019 & I wanted to share our experience in SPES and how we prepared ourselves for the big day.

DAY 1 - MONDAY

Our week started with a short briefing about the event and we were given a small reminder on the proper attire and what we needed to do during our move-in day.

Once the briefing ended, TingZhen and I headed to T11sq to see how the booth looked like so we could plan our display layout beforehand. We realised one table is not enough to display our project and but we were lucky enough to be given an extra table! Thank god the organisers had extras!

DAY 2 - TUESDAY

Now that we've collected this year's SPES shirt, I actually feel like the day is coming and the nerves started creeping up. But planning ahead helped keep things in order and organised. We created our game plan and we included our schedule, logistics, table layout, and script. We even printed out warning signs to ensure the audiences that comes to our booth are careful around sharp & heavy objects.

DAY 3 - WEDNESDAY

Move-in day! I'm so glad we planned ahead and preparation went better than expected.

DAY 4 - THURSDAY

Our first day in SPES went better than expected! We have received great feedback as well as constructive criticism that will help us greatly into making our project even better in the next iteration. We were given the chance to showcase our project to companies such as Yamazaki Mazak Singapore Pte Ltd and Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Center (ARTC). We have gained such great experience that we would have not encountered within a classroom setting.

DAY 5 - FRIDAY

Last day!! We finally reached the end of SPES. Our second day went by slowly as there were lesser people who visited. But this time around, we received more feedback from secondary school & even our SP students and I'm glad they enjoyed our demo and what we've created.

All the best & See you soon!
