HELLO BiRdS!!!!!!

SO WE ARE IN THE ENGINEERING SHOW GUYS!!!! SORRY for the suspense HEHE.

SO NOW, back to whatever we have left off - THE WORKSTATION

The outline on the “table top” looks like lines on a surface area which looks weird actually :(

SO we’ve decided over the weekends to try placing the individual tools on top of the “table top” so the user can easily differentiate between the tools. AND IT WORKS!!! looks great too! we also added a feature whereby, the user can freeze the camera after detecting so he/she wouldn’t have to constantly detecting the thingmark!

We also used Creo Illustrate to animate the TOOL SETTER & ROD to highlight and move towards the camera to indicate the user to pick it up! There is also a textbox beside the Tool Setter and rod to further guide the user!

With that, we will ALSO put an information page to guide the user on how to align the workstation accordingly!

Meanwhile, we started on the textboxes & after effects animation for the tool change & step up - tool 1! With the textboxes being finalized, we also updated the Audio Google Docs for the Text-to-Speech Function!

After we’re done with the textboxes & animations, we then tried to put everything into vuforia studio! AND THATS WHEN PROBLEM SLAPS US IN THE FACE...... It was soooooo laggy, with all the different tools for the workstation! We’re not VERY sure what’s the problem but we think it might be the the file size! So we compress the file, and it works much better!!!! We compressed the file by importing the Autodesk Inventor to 3Ds Max, and then export it as a .fbx file! So for the stationary models, we compressed it. But for those that needed to export to Creo we leave it as a inventor file.

HOWEVER, on Friday, 26 October 2018, we showed Mr David, our supervisor our workstation and ask him for his feedback! He suggested we could rid of the “table top”, and outline on a piece or paper/cardboard of the tools. And paste a thingmark on any corners on the workstation, and measure accurately the distance between the thingmark & the tools. So when we scan the thingmark, it will pop up the tools relative to where the thingmark is! Hehe, i honestly think it’s a good idea!!! sooo we will try it next week keke

On top of all the things i’ve discussed, we’ve also started on our report too!!!

I’ll let you know the results & process of working on the new idea for the workstation next week!!! See you soon!!

Updates for the week:

There wasn't much going on this week as most of the time was spent preparing for a mini-presentation for this module called, BA0319: Introduction to Entrepreneurship, which apparently is a requirement for all Engineering Academy (EA) students such as myself must take.

Other than that, there nothing much for me to share for this week.

We spent the last few days getting ready for a 5-minute panel for the up and coming Engineering Show. In this panel, a group of judges will walk around and each team is allowed five minutes to showcase their current project and what they've created until today. This panel enables the judges to decide the potential teams that are able to complete their project by early January. On top of that, these team's work is impressive enough to showcase to industries and SMEs.

The team and I had a hard time deciding if we should take up the challenge of showcasing our work in Engineering Show. Initially, the team and I wanted to take things slow as we have countless steps to create for the CNC Milling Machine and we were unsure if we could complete the required work by the scheduled time.

Two days before the showcase, our supervisor asked the team again if we really didn't want to partake in the Engineering Show as he sees potential in our work and progress. And in the spur of the moment, we agreed to it and took the challenge again. Lucky enough we had completed more than enough for this showcase.

Here are the list of things we've completed in time for the showcase:

- Splash Screen

- Purpose Page

- ThingMark for Augmented Reality

- Menu Page

- Step-by-step Instructions

- Detection of Tool 1-3

All the best & See you soon!
